week 14 - this is dragging on a bit

hi guys

ok so ive just pushed through week 14 and we are definitly seeing improvements now.  a new spot is now the exception much more than the norm (i used to get at least 2 a day - i dont think ive had 2 in about a month recently, which is fantastic).

as ever though I cannot be content and am irritated by the redness of my chin and the marks down my cheeks.  im sure they will go eventually.  when I see the Derm i will see what can be done.

i am also going to have to go on a tea total soon: been drinking far too much recently.  I havent felt any different, but im sure i will be.  It would be so gutting if I was taken off Roac because I’d been a prick with alcohol so I’m gonna stay off the drinks for a good while.  Luckily I’m on a low dosgae (30mg) because the Derm assumed I would drink at uni - at the time I was upset as it meant I would be on the drug longer, but now I see why he did it and am very thankful indeed.  I should really be more careful.

other side effects are coming back I think.  I had a couple of weeks without excessively dry skin, but thats coming back now and my lips are really dry as well - fair enough I can take these things now.  I think everyones much more stoic after being on roac for a little while and sorta just accepts the rough with the smooth.

I hope theres more smooth than rough for everyone at the moment though - hope alls well n stuff.

Abi’s Third Course - 6 & a half months in

Thought id give a quick update. Basically, I havn’t had any serious spots for about 3 and a half months, which i think is pretty good going :-)! However, im so petrified of coming off the roacc incase i relapse again. I’ve got about fifteen 20mg capsules left and then I have about sixty of the 5mg capsules, therefore, when i have finished the 20mg capsules (taking one a day) i’m going to take 5mg a day and see how I get on with it, meaning my course is going to be drawn out for a very very long time! I could easily take more mg’s a day and get my course over quickly, but id actually rather take it for longer as I feel more “in control” of my skin.

Anyway, havn’t got alot else to say! Hope you are all doing okay :-)

Spotty Dotty - a girl fighting the beast that is acne!

Hello All,

May i introduce myself?!

I’ve given myself the name Spotty Dotty because i think it somes up how i feel about acne.

I find my acne to be all encompassing, featuring in all parts of my life, but best dealt with directly with some perspective and a sense of humour.

I’m 24 and have a good job, good friends and a fun life, but recently my acne has returned after being absent for a while and is back in a big way. This time round i’m not going to feel a little embaressed or be fobbed off with antibiotics, topical stingy lotions and 2 minutes of sympathy from a doctor…… i’m on a mission for clear skin!

When i was 17 i had acne and it took years to be prescribed Roaccutane, which in my opinion is a lifesaver. I have just been re prescribed Roaccutane and I want to keep a diary of this experiance for myself mainly, but also for other people out there that feel that acne is holding them back a little.

For a start i’m taking the view that I’m not going to put up with acne, and that there are treatments out there for clearer skin so i’m going to be trying whatever is recommended and perhaps it would be useful for others to hear if it actually works?

I’m looking forward to seeing a difference in my skin, i am hoping that soon i will see some improvement as I’ve been taking it for a week today. Although saying that, my face and lips don’t really feel dry yet so perhaps this is going to take longer than the 1st course.

SO, if anyone is reading this then COME ON!! Lets go get it and all have a good week really living life and feeling positive that us Roaccutane munchers are on the right path!

DIARY- Week 4 (Photo Included)

wow, cant believe its been a whole month. Had the derm appoint on friday.. fairly quickish this time. Just asked if i had any side effects and she was happy wiht my blood test so its all good.

This week i had a huge breakout on saturday.. in time 4 a huggge 18th.. was not impressed. Apart form tht im still getting spots but not as violent as before. Lips.. dry.. of course.. no need to even write it as its GOING TO HAPPEN if on roac..

I find that moisturiser wise ‘Mrs Sporty’ spot free stuff works.. and u can get conceler and power foundation. I know mrs sports isnt a respectable brand and many people will find that its ‘too cheap’ so has to aggrivate spots. However it has no oil or added thigs and is anti-bacterial. I find its very helpful asl i fit into the meduim tone quite well. The problem is there is only light medium or dark so not everyone will fit into a catergory.. but worth a try.

On a better note.. this week ive been on a high.. haven’t been happier.. like im drunk again. I also got an offer from manchester uni so that might have contributed as im one of the first to egts offers.

hope everyone else is ok.

keep fighting. Danixx

ps. the picture is long distant so made me look spot free especially in that light and editing a bit.. Im the one on the very right by the way>
